Final Parking Report

Action Plan- Summary of Recommendations

In 2005, the City of Middletown was awarded nearly $18 million in Federal Transportation funds to improve transportation and parking facilities in the downtown.

The Federal Transportation Bill allocated three earmarks to Middletown, CT for downtown improvements totaling $18,754,000. The three earmarks are:

-- Downtown Middletown, CT, Transportation Infrastructure Improvement Project- TOTAL: $9,500,000
-- Middletown, CT Construct intermodal center- TOTAL: $1,254,000
-- Replace existing parking garage in Middletown, with 4-story, handicapped accessible parking garage.- TOTAL: $8,000,000

The federal funding requires a non-federal match of 20% that equals $3,750,800. The federal funding and non-federal match would provide $22,504,800 for downtown parking and infrastructure improvements.

The City, along with a hired consultant, will be developing a plan for the expenditure of these funds and will be posting information as it becomes available so the residents of Middletown can participate in improving the downtown.
